Membership – paying your subscription
As mentioned at our annual general meeting last October and in our December newsletter, we have increased our annual membership fees and are now requesting that all members of St Albans Civic Society change to paying their membership subscription by direct debit. We have set up an arrangement with GoCardless to collect subscriptions from our members by Direct Debit. GoCardless have been processing payments since 2011 and are used by almost 100,000 businesses in the UK, ranging in size from major utility companies to Scout groups. Gocardless is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority for the provision of payment services.
To set up your Direct Debit authority please go to the website address here. This will take you to our secure sign-up form on the GoCardless website where you will be asked to provided your contact details, your bank account details and complete the Direct Debit authority.
Regular payment
Once you have set up the Direct Debit authority we will arrange an annual debit in the month that your subscription renewal is next due and for the amount appropriate to your membership type (Individual at £20.00 or household at £30.00). As soon as we do that GoCardless will send you an email with the details of the amount that will be charged and the date of that charge.
Please be assured that the Civic Society will only use the direct debit authorisation to collect your annual membership subscription and you will be notified by email before any payment is taken or if any change is made to the amount or date of the charge. Direct debits are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which means that you can ask your bank to make a full and immediate refund if you believe that we have made a mistake in a debit, and you can cancel your direct debit authorisation at any time.
Once you have set up the direct debit authorisation please remember to instruct your bank to cancel any existing standing order that may be in place for payment of your membership subscription (standing orders are completely separate from direct debits and we regret that we cannot help you with cancelling a redundant standing order instruction).
Please assist the Society by setting up a direct debit authorisation to pay your membership fees. If you are unable to do that please make a transfer of the amount of your subscription (Individual at £20.00 or household at £30.00) to the Society’s bank account as follows, quoting YOUR NAME(S) as the payment reference.

Subscription Rates
Subscriptions are due annually on the same date each year. Rates are as follows:
- Individual: £20
- Household (two or more living at the same address): £30
- Individual under the age of 25: Free of charge
